Sunday Dinner was a Pizza Fest today. We were celebrating the arrival of Aunt Lily who just stopped by on her cross country business trip. Some classics from our family's Memory Lane showed up in the oven as well as a couple of new ones. All the herbs came from our garden - which makes it very nice and simple. Sage, 2 kinds of parsely, chives and fresh oregano all found their way into the various pizzas. Here's what we all devoured: 2 Pizzas that my Dad makes all the
time: no tomato sauce, just Fontina and Gruyere cheese with chopped herbs on top. You could eat pieces of these for days! Second, came a fugazetta - but with tomato sauce underneath - we can't seem to make pizza without adding one of these babies!
There was a pizza with sauteed mushrooms and artichoke hearts - that won the Best New Pizza award from my 13 year-old son. There was a pizza with green olives and tuna that was "okay", but didn't live up to its past glory. And
then there was another that was a favorite when we were kids - a very simple pizza with sauce - no cheese - and only garlic and the crinkly, dried black olives. My dad used to make this with slices of garlic and I have done that in the past. But today, I decided to roast
some garlic in the oven in tin-foil when I fired it up for the first pizza. By the time I made this last one, the garlic was like butter, so I took it out and used the roasted garlic with the olives. There are NO left-overs of that one! Quite a nice afternoon!
