I so wanted to make Blue Lotus' Meatball Soup with Chinese Cabbage and Rice Vermicelli, but my son is an avid soup disliker and I make him grin and bear it through soup a ton anyway. Since he and his sister are sick, I figured I wouldn't make him something he doesn't like on top of it! So...
I made some braised pork in Hoisin sauce and served it along with some Jasmine rice that I cooked with ginger, scallions and turmeric. The cilantro, peanuts and lime get added to the rice when it is done. The combo worked. Those sick kids look better already! I'll sneak some Chinese meatball soup in on him when he least expects it!
Yea Andy, I haven't been able to forget that Blue Lotus Meatball soup.
The meatballs are called Lion's Head, in mandarin Chinese. It's a traditional Chinese dish.
Maybe you can tell your son that it really isn't soup per se, but that it's more like a stew?
OK. Whom am I kidding.
